For those who don’t have the benefit of a company paying for their training, trying to get the right courses for your credentialing can be frustrating and a real hassle.

So many entry-level seamen are at a loss as to how to enter the job market without a) income, b) the required experience, and c) the proper training. It is a vicious cycle that prevents the workforce from growing in quality and quantity and keeps smart and reliable maritime workers out of a job.

These days basic merchant marine training courses can be difficult for new mariners to afford, which is why we created the Marine Award Program for Seaman to help offset these expenses.
