About AIDT
Launched in Mobile, Alabama in 2007, the AIDT Maritime Training Center provides job seekers with the skills and qualifications they need to become a part of the maritime industry. AIDT broke ground on their Training Center in 2009, and the Center officially opened in November 2010. The 67,000-square-foot facility includes computer labs, classrooms, a non-destructive testing lab, and an electrical lab. The state-of-the-art assembly room holds over 200 guests, and the shop floor includes 60 welding booths, a sub-arc welder and a track welder, a CNC plasma table, and a lay-down yard with overhead crane access. Also available at the facility are a counter-balanced, rough terrain forklift, scaffold building, a man lift, and a 10-ton overhead crane and rigging used for safety training.
Training Available
The Training Center is available to all industrial and maritime companies, providing courses in upgraded/advanced technologies, industry standards, and custom training. AIDT offers training for individuals and registered companies at no cost, by application only. See their training page for an up-to-date list of available courses. Please note that this page is updated frequently.
The Selection Process
When you submit an application, it is automatically scored by the computer, and ranked in comparison to the other applications submitted. The applications that have the highest scores then undergo a further review process, and roughly 100 applicants are chosen to attend an orientation. From that orientation, 32 trainees will be invited to attend class. If you are not selected to attend class, you will be notified by mail. You can re-apply at any time.
Other Services
AIDT also assists several employers throughout Alabama by identifying qualified applicants through recruitment, training, and screening services. Those applicants who successfully complete the job-specific training through AIDT will be recommended to employers in the industry associated with that training.
